Description of the Field Experience Activity and Your Role: Co-Teaching Meeting
PART II: REFLECTION
Our Co-Teaching RESA Consultant for our county selected me and my co-teacher to be the model for Co-Teaching at our high school. She observed us on several occasions last semester and was impressed by our team. She told us that we consistently use differentiated lessons and we have mastered all the co-teaching models. She has urged our principal to allow the other co-teaching teams to come in and observe us.
I am very fortunate to have a Co-Teacher whose instructional philosophy, teaching style and personality is so much like mine that even though we have only been working together for less than a year it appears we have known and worked with each other forever. We complement each other so well. My co-teacher is enthusiastic and a great advocate for Students with Disabilities. We are able to work together to present many hands on learning models that reach even the most struggling student. We make learning fun!
Mrs. Martin the RESA Consultant met with us about setting up a time when other counties could come in and observe what we do. We looked at some co-teaching guidelines and some best practices. She asked us to write down the strategies we use and what we have found to be successful in our classroom. She urged us to share these strategies with our colleagues and to even present a PLC on co-teaching. We discussed scheduling and other areas of concerned for next school term. We put some tentative dates on the calendar for observations and feedback sessions.
Meeting with the RESA Consultant helped to validate my area of strength which is in the area of co-teaching. Because, my background is Special Education I have always felt that made me a better Regular Education teacher. I understand the importance of working together and breaking information down. I believe that when all of us work together it truly makes a difference. C0-Teaching is an excellent example of true team work! This experience of being the model for co-teaching has added to my leadership skill set. It helps me to lead by example and also because I have certification in both Special Education P-12 , English 6-12, and ESOL certification my wealth of experience gives me the background and confidence in leading all teachers.
