Our PLC Meeting this month reflected on the teaching strategies for working with At Risk Students, Writing Tips for Students and review of the dangers of Jules.
The committee reviewed the following:
1) Behavior Analysis as related to at risk students
2) Reading and Writing Strategies
3) Inclusion Strategies
4) Set Date for Spring Parent Night and discussion of what will be presented
Each of us on the PLC committee take a leadership role. One of us is in charge each month to conduct the meeting. This occurs on a rotation. However, some members are not very vocal and consider these meetings to be a waste of time. They believe that we do a great deal of talking and we don't really address the issues at hand. During some meetings the more vocal members just take over and according to who is running the meeting things may get off topic.
The Leadership Styles that were observed in our February Meeting was that of a Servant Leader and that of Invitational Leadership. Servant Leaders lead by example and are willing to go the way and show the way by working side by side. They are always wiling to volunteer to lead any type of project or incentive. Our Department Head Mrs. Velez is a great Servant Leader. One of our team members displays Invitational Leadership skills. He is kind and positive with his words. He constantly compliments people and the jobs they are dong. He always looks at the good and stays away from the negative. The other member of our team that was present for the February Meeting displays a Bureaucratic Leadership Style. This member is a rule follower. Whatever the handbook, principal, school board, or whoever is in charge says that is what she follows and she never questions the rules....ever. Now rules are important and the way we do things must be profession but it also must be in the best interest of the students and everyone involved. It's hard to have a team spirit, analyze issues at hand if we can never ask why.
In these meetings I play a role. My leadership style shines though when it is my month to lead. However, when I am just a participant I often find myself not fully invested in the issues at hand. Sometimes we meet just to meet and that is wrong. If we are going to be a true team our meetings must be intentional with a common goal and purpose.
As an educational leader the following standards correlated with this event. 1. Instructional Leadership, 2. School Climate, 4. Organizational Management
